The condition of Private Andrei Sychyov brought to an intensive care unit at the Burdenko main military hospital is "serious but stable"
The condition of Private Andrei Sychyov brought to an intensive care unit at the Burdenko main military hospital is "serious but stable," hospital director Vyacheslav Klyuzhev told reporters on Tuesday. "Sychyov endured the flight from Chelyabinsk to Moscow well. He is conscious, has an adequate reaction to everything, answers questions and is available to doctors for contacts," Klyuzhev said. "A diagnostic period is underway. We have to scan all internal organs of the soldier and draw the appropriate conclusions before continuing the treatment," he went on to say. The decision on rehabilitation therapy and making prosthetic appliances will follow. Klyuzhev warned about the danger of new infections developing in the patient, including sepsis. Sychyov's mother Galina is in the hospital dormitory. "We'll give her a job of junior nurse, we have many such vacancies," he said. "The hospital has all the necessary equipment and consumables," Klyuzhev said. "We have contacts with other medical centers, and use their help if need be," he added. On the New Year night, conscripts of a support battalion at the Chelyabinsk tank college beat eight younger colleagues. One of the victims - Private Andrei Sychyov - who suffered three hours of beating and humiliation was later taken to hospital where doctors amputated his feet. The incident caused a public outcry and was widely covered by the media. Chief military prosecutor Alexander Savenkov told a committee on judicial and legal issues under the Federation Council upper house of the Russian parliament on Monday that after the brutal treatment, Sychyov survived "miraculously." Commander of the Chelyabinsk tank college Maj-Gen Viktor Sidorov was charged with the concealment of five crimes, including the beating of Sychyov.
