As of the beginning of the year, officers of the Russian Federal Drug Control Service (FDCS) have seized more than 400 kilograms of heroin, Itar-Tass learnt at the FDCS Public Relations Centre. “This year efforts of drug police are aimed at revealing and destroying major channels of drug deliveries to the country,” a FDCS representative said. According to him, during the first month of the year alone, “104 cases of confiscation of major batches of heroin were registered.” Officers of the FDCS Department for the Saratov Region have stopped up an interregional channel of deliveries of major batches of drugs. During a special operation in the city of Rtishchevo, over 24 kilograms of heroin, as well as firearms, cold steel and ammunition were discovered in a Toyota land cruiser-100 which was stopped for an examination. “Drug police of the Kurgan Region have stopped up a channel of heroin deliveries to Russia from Kazakhstan,” the FDCS representative said. More than 52 kilograms of packed heroin were seized in the house of a local resident. As was established by investigators, the drugs were delivered through the Russian-Kazakh border bypassing official checkpoints. During a special operation, four members of a criminal group - - citizens of Germany, Kazakhstan, Russia and Tajikistan were detained.
