Half of the tonne of diesel fuel spilt as a result of an explosion of a snow-clearing train on the tracks of the Ryazan direction has burnt
Half of the tonne of diesel fuel spilt as a result of an explosion of a snow-clearing train on the tracks of the Ryazan direction has burnt. The rest of the fuel spill will be cleaned up with the help of special equipment, an official of the city’s fire fighting service told Itar-Tass. The fire-fighting official said that according to preliminary information, about a tonne of diesel fuel was spilt on the tracks as a result of the explosion in a car of the train. The spill area was some 50 square metres. The official said a fire-fighting train is currently working at the scene cooling the bunt car. “After that the snow-clearing train will be transported to a depot and specialists will investigate the causes of the incident,” he stressed. He said the incident took place at about 01:00, Moscow time, in the east of the city. The explosion, the causes of which are so far uncertain, took place in the first car of the train and started a fire. Ten fire-fighting crews and a fire-fighting train were engaged in the extinguishing efforts Fire fighting efforts were impeded by the difficulty of access to approach lines that are mostly “barricaded” from the “big city” by garages and special fences. “A fire-fighting train from the nearby Perovo station was called to the scene,” a police official said. He stressed the causes of the incident are currently being ascertained and the diesel fuel spill cleanup efforts have been launched. The incident did not impede train traffic from Moscow to Ryazan.
