The Russian Defense Ministry said Wednesday that it had nothing to do with billboards depicting the U.S. battleship Missouri
The Russian Defense Ministry said Wednesday that it had nothing to do with billboards depicting the U.S. battleship Missouri. The billboards appeared on Moscow's streets ahead of a holiday to mark the foundation of the Red Army in 1918. "We are baffled by Russian media's allegations that the Defense Ministry of Russia may have ordered the advertisements," the ministry's press office said. It said the embarrassing gaffe was due to the authors' incompetence rather than malice. The Missouri was the venue of signing the act of Japan's unconditional surrender on September 2, 1945, which marked an end to the Second World War.
