President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Budapest on official visit
President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Budapest. This is the first official visit of the Russian chief of state to Hungary in the past 14 years. The previous visit was paid by then president Boris Yeltsin in November 1992. Following an official welcome ceremony, Putin will speak to Hungarian President Laszlo Solyom and have negotiations with Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany. The negotiations will start one-to-one, and delegations will join in later. A press conference will follow. Later in the day Putin will lay flowers to the monument commemorating victims of the October 25, 1956, events. On Wednesday Putin will lay flowers to the Unknown Soldier Tomb on Heroes Square and the monument to Soviet soldiers on Freedom Square. He will also take part in a ceremony transferring books from the Sarospatak library that was taken to Russia during the Second World War. Putin will bestow Pushkin Medals on Hungarian citizens, who have contributed to the promotion of bilateral relations. Later in the day Putin will fly to the Czech Republic.
