A bird flu case is confirmed in Chechnya
The expertise conducted in the laboratory of the all-Russian Animal Protection Research Institute in Vladimir showed that the bird flu virus had been found in the dead swan in the Achkhoi-Martan region of Chechnya, Chechen chief veterinary doctor Magomed Musayev told Itar-Tass on Wednesday. “We received an official report from the laboratory that the expertise proved positive,” he emphasized. This is the only bird flu case in Chechnya so far. The massive mortality of poultry at poultry farms and in the private sector was not registered. According to the chief veterinary doctor, migratory birds, including swans, migrate mainly via the Achkhoi-Martan region. “We will get 1.2 million vaccines against bird flu in March and April upon agreement with the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Control. Effective measures of the fight with bird flu will be taken in case of a bird flu epidemic,” Musayev pointed out.
