The number of Internet users in Russia in 2005 increased by 19% year-on-year to 22 million, the head of the country's federal media agency said Wednesday. "According to forecasts, the number of Russian Internet users will grow by 4 million in 2006," Mikhail Seslavinsky said at a conference. "Russia's Internet domain has over 180,000 Web sites, including 19,000 educational and scientific, or 11% of the total number." Seslavinsky said 1,816 sites had been registered as mass media, and that 285 such sites had been registered in 2005. "Overall, some 400,000 domain names have been registered in Russia's Internet segment, which testifies to its great potential growth reserves," he added.
