14 HOUSES DESTROYED IN CHECHNYA BY LANDSLIDE
Fourteen dwelling houses and two kilometres of the gas pipeline have been destroyed by a landslide in the village of Zandak, the Nozhai-Yurt district. The landslide occurred yesterday, between four and five hours, p. m., RIA Novosti was told in the press service of the Southern Regional Centre of the Russian Emergencies Ministry. The landslide threatens another 36 houses, and altogether 300 dwelling houses are now in the zone of a possible emergency situation. 250 people have been evacuated from the calamity area, the press service reported. The greater part of the evacuated (220 people) have found refuge in their relatives' houses, and 30 have been accommodated in the local school. All the evacuated have been supplied with foodstuffs and medicines. An extraordinary session of the republican emergencies commission will be held to discuss the situation.
