Avia Management Group (AMG) took delivery of the first plane set to run air-taxi services under the Dexter brand Wednesday
Avia Management Group (AMG) took delivery of the first plane set to run air-taxi services under the Dexter brand Wednesday. Papers on the transfer of the first M101-T aircraft, built by the Sokol plant in the Volga city of Nizhny Novgorod, were signed by AMG Chairman Yevgeny Andrachnikov and Sokol General Director Mikhai Shibayev. "The commissioning of the first aircraft marks a new phase in the development of Russia's civil aviation," Andrachnikov said. "We are witnessing the emergence of direct business air services between cities in Russia." Sokol, which produces the MiG jet fighter, is expected to build 45 M101-T planes for the first phase of the project by mid-2007. This batch of planes is worth about $70 million. The M101-T is a six-passenger aircraft with a range of 1,100 kilometers (about 680 miles). It is one of the most reliable, safe, comfortable and cost-efficient planes in its class, and can cruise at up to 7,000 meters (4.3 miles). Andrachnikov said air-taxi tickets would cost from 23 rubles ($0.8) to 15 rubles ($0.5) per kilometer. Air taxis will carry passengers and freight from major airports at intervals of 1.5-2 hours, although individual services will also be possible. Passengers will be able to reserve tickets by phone or online, and buy them at the airport, he said. Andrachnikov said his company was looking to expand the fleet to 250 planes.
