Organizing committee of a summit conference of the Group of Eight Industrialized Nations has opened an official website
Organizing committee of a summit conference of the Group of Eight Industrialized Nations, due in St Petersburg from July 15 though to July 17, has opened an official website at www.g8russia.ru where the reporters seeking accreditation may fill out a special registration form and attach their digital photos. Apart from a questionnaire with personal data and information on the media they represent, the reporters are also expected to file official application letters on the head-letters of the news services or broadcasting companies they represent. The letters must also have the issuing corporation’s official stamps. The media bureau of the organizing committee reserves the right to turn the application down without explaining any reasons for it. The reporters whose accreditations are confirmed will be able to pick up their ID’s right upon arrival in St Petersburg. For this purpose, shuttle bus services will be offered between Pulkovo airport or Moskovsky railways station and the center for accreditations located in the seaport passenger terminal (Morskoy vokzal). The parking lots of the shuttles will have special identifying logos. Badges will be given out only to the reporters who get official accreditations via the portal of Russian presidency in the G8. To get a badge, a reporter will be expected to present the first copy of an accreditation letter from his or her media service in Russian or English and a passport. Accreditation cards will be written out in the name of each reporter and the organizing committee warns they must be kept through to the end of the summit. The holders of those cards will have an opportunity to use the services of the International Press Center and to join reporters’ pools. The media bureau of the organizing committee also warns that it must be immediately informed about the loss of all accreditations. If a reporter finds that his or her badge disappeared on the compound of the International Press Center, he or she must turn to the center’s information desk. The organizing committee recommends that reporters covering the summit pick up accommodations at the hotels Pribaltiyskaya and Moskva, as a round-the-clock shuttle service will be organized between those hotels and the International Press Center. The organizers say, however, they will not be responsible for transportation of the media people who arrange accommodations at other hotels. The organizing committee promises sending all information on how to book to all the reporters whose accreditations are confirmed and who make known their plans of staying at the Pribaltiyskaya or Moskva. The itinerary of the summit includes the official functions open to reporters. However, only a few functions are free of restrictions on the number of reporters who can be present there. At all other functions, coverage will be done in pools. Reporters will be informed via national delegations and over the internal information TV channel of the International Press Center on the opportunities for joining one or another pool. Each pool covering a function as part of the summit will be given a number, and reporters will get yellow cards with the number printed on it. These cards will be circulated by press services of national delegations and the organizing committee’s media bureau. On the average, about 4,000 reporters are accredited every year to cover the G8 summits. The exact numbers may vary, though, as a total of 4,500 reporters gathered in Genoa to cover the 2001 summit, while last year’s conference in Gleneagles, Scotland, drew slightly more than 3,000 reporters.
