High winds in the North Caucasus republic of Ingushetia have left some 20,000 people in the capital and nearby districts without electricity, an emergencies center in southern Russia said Thursday. "Wind velocity was registered at 14-17 meters a second and occasionally reached 25 meters in the republic on March 8," the center reported. "The winds have damaged the roofs of about 30 [residential] buildings and the school in the village of Alkun." Occasional disruptions in power supplies and telephone services were reported throughout the republic.
