A group of Chinese ecologists have arrived in Khabarovsk on Monday to take samples of water from the Amur river
A group of Chinese ecologists have arrived in Khabarovsk on Monday to take samples of water, ice from the Amur river and its bottom. The planned ecological tests are envisaged in an agreement on a second stage of the joint Russo-Chinese monitoring that is to continue until May 15, the Chinese Consulate General told Tass in Khabarovsk. The Chinese ecologists will begin work on Tuesday. The samples will be taken from different spots - at the point of the confluence of the Sungari and Amur rivers, near Khabarovsk and further down the Amur river. The Chinese and Russian scientists intend to study the samples separately and then exchange the results of the tests and make a joint conclusion on a degree of the river pollution. River ice melting in spring will not cause the Sungari pollution a second time, the Chinese side said in an official forecast with reference to the Chinese State Environmental Protection Department. The ecological situation on the Sungari River is stable, the river water conforms to drinking standards, and the concentration of chemical components in fish does not exceed the permissible norm, the Chinese side said in the document.
