A court in North Ossetia's Pravoberezhny district began the hearing of the case of Beslan police accused of negligence that resulted in the terrorist attack in Beslan in the autumn of 2004. Three defendants - former head of the Pravoberezhny police precinct Miroslav Aidarov, deputy head for general security Taimuraz Murtazov and head of a district headquarters Guram Dryayev pleaded innocent. According to the indictment read at the hearing, "the unprincipled attitude toward performing one's service duties contributed to the gang's crossing the administrative border unhindered, penetrating into the territory of North Ossetia and seizing the school." The article under which the defendants are charged carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison and a ban on certain jobs. Four hundred and fifty people are listed as victims in the case
