NEW RAILWAY TARIFFS HAVE NOT MADE TRANSPORT LOAD ON ECONOMY COSTLIER - VICE-PREMIER KHRISTENKO
The new railage price list, effective since August 28, has not made the transport load on the economy costlier, Russian Vice-Premier Victor Khristenko said to reporters on Monday. He was holding a sitting of the governmental commission for tariff regulation on federal railways. Simultaneously, he admitted that in some directions and regarding certain cargo categories the tariffs have appreciably risen. In this connection, the commission has taken the decision not to doubt in general the price listing principle but consider complex cases and apply, if possible, exclusive tariffs. The analysis was made on results of the September-October 2003 monitoring, which is not enough to draw final conclusions, said Khristenko. The commission will continue monitoring and return to this matter in February 2004. To Khristenko, special attention will be paid to how the new price list has affected competition on rail transport. In addition, the commission will pay an additional attention to the observance of the balance of interests of carriers and other involved parties, Khristenko said.
