Vladimir Putin said problems of the agricultural sector are most important for the national economy at present
Russian President Vladimir Putin said problems of the agricultural sector are most important for the national economy at present. "The most pressing problem now is to supply fuel and lubricants for agricultural machinery during the sowing," the head of state said at a meeting with Cabinet officials on Monday. Minister of Industry and Energy Viktor Khristenko said "there are no problems from the point of view of the availability of resources for works; there's full procurement of resources." He also offered assurances to the president about "price stability" of fuel and lubricants. "It's absolutely obvious to us and this has been confirmed by all oil companies that all the factors influencing prices are stable; there are no reasons for a /price/ hike in March-May," Khristenko emphasized. In his view, "there's varied experience in ensuring supplies of fuel and lubricants in agriculture." As a positive example, he noted "the concluding of contracts /between agribusinesses and fuel and lubricants suppliers/ for the whole year in the Volgograd, Astrakhan and Orenburg regions. "We thought it necessary to spread this experience to other regions," the minister said. "An inter-departmental commission was set up under the Ministry of Agriculture to tackle current issues requiring "manual tuning," he added.
