Russian truck manufacturer Kamaz intends to open an enterprise to assemble trucks in Syria
Russian truck manufacturer Kamaz intends to open an enterprise to assemble trucks in Syria, the president of Tatarstan said Thursday. "We are actively working on the Kamaz truck assembly project in Syria," said Mintimer Shaimiyev, on a visit to the Syrian capital. Kamaz deputy general director Anatoly Samarenkin said the enterprise would be commissioned in 2007. He said some 1,000 trucks would be annually produced in Syria, with half to be sold in the country, and the other half elsewhere in the Mideast. Syria is one of Kamaz' biggest partners in the Middle East. Over the last three years, Syrians have bought more than 500 trucks from the company.
