Bird flu vaccination of poultry began in the Volgograd region on Friday
Bird flu vaccination of poultry began in the Volgograd region on Friday, head of the regional response headquarters for bird flu prevention and liquidation, first deputy governor Pavel Chumakov told Itar-Tass. According to the official, the first batch of 2.3 million doses of the vaccine has been delivered to the region from the Stavropol biofactory. Poultry will be inoculated on Friday in the Vesyoly settlement where the N5H1 strain of the bird flu virus was registered on Thursday. Some 100 chickens have died there. “The bird flu hotbed was promptly localised,” said Chumakov. According to him, “No cases of poultry death were registered in the settlement overnight. It is banned to take poultry meat and eggs out of the area for sale.” Some 10 million of chickens, geese and ducks are currently kept at homesteads and poultry farms in the Volgograd region at present.
