Bird flu has been curbed in 52 out of 67 bird flu-stricken settlements in Russia, a source in the Federal Agency for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Control told Itar-Tass on Tuesday. The bird flu cases among birds were registered in 67 settlements in ten out of 13 regions of the Southern Federal District in the first quarter of the year, the federal veterinary watchdog said. More than 1.3 million birds died or were slaughtered in the bird flu spots for the period. “The dead birds have been disposed fully, veterinary and sanitary measures are being taken in the remaining 15 bird flu-affected settlements,” the source emphasized. Nine bird flu-stricken settlements are situated in the Krasnodar territory as of April 4. One bird flu-affected settlement is located in the Stavropol territory and another one in the Volgograd region, other four affected settlements in Dagestan. “More than 12 million birds were vaccinated against bird flu” in Russia now, the source pointed out. Over 22 million vaccines were supplied to the affected regions.
