Russia's State Customs Committee is circulating a press release with the latest foreign trade statistics
The foreign trade turnover for last January into March made US$51.3 billion-21.8 per cent more than in the first quarter-year 2003. Countries outside the post-Soviet area accounted for $42.1 billion of the total (+19.8%), and the CIS-Commonwealth of Independent States-$9.2 billion (+31.5%). The balance was positive, with $21.8 billion, as against last year's 19.2 billion. Russian exports for January-March made $36.6 billion (+19.2%), with $30.8 billion (+17.2%) for countries outside the post-Soviet area, and $5.8 billion (+31.9%) for the CIS. Imports amounted to $14.7 billion (+28.5%), with $11.3 billion (+27.8%) for countries outside the post-Soviet area, and $3.4 billion (+31.0%) for the CIS. Germany, the Netherlands, China, Italy, Finland, Turkey, Poland, France and Japan came as Russia's leading commercial partners for the initial quarter-year.
