Sergei Lavrov expressed satisfaction with his meeting with Angela Merkel
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed satisfaction with his meeting with German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel. He stated this on Thursday addressing German business people and politicians. “Russian-German relations show an upward trend in every area,“ the minister said. “The initial contacts of Russian President Vladimir Putin with Angela Merkel, my meetings with German leaders today confirmed that our partnership has stood the test for durability,” Lavrov said. “It is unaffected by circumstantial considerations,” he said. The minister said Merkel “came out in support for the North-European gas pipeline, the project in which Russian and German companies participate.” “We wish to diversify the routes of oil export without affecting the existing ones in any way,” Lavrov said. He stressed that energy security “requires consideration for the interests of both energy suppliers and energy consumers.” “We depend on Europe for our export, and we also need stable and reliable demand,” the Russian minister said.
