The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church opens its meeting over the most important events of this year in Moscow on Tuesday midday. Patriarch Alexy II, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, will chair the meeting. The Synod gathers in his working residence on Moscow’s Chisty Pereulok. Seven permanent and five provisional Synod members attend the sitting, at which assessment will be given to the recent meeting of the World Russian People’s Council that was recently held in Moscow. Its agenda included discussion of human rights in Russia. The Synod is expected to review proposals for setting up an institute of the military clergy. The Synod traditionally meets two weeks before Easter. Its next meeting will be held in this year’s June.
