Yukos Vice-president Vasily Aleksanyan has been locked up in a punishment cell because he refused to undergo a medical examination
Yukos Vice-president Vasily Aleksanyan has been locked up in a punishment cell because he refused to undergo a medical examination. His lawyer, Gevorg Dangyan, told Tass that the defendant had been kept in the cell since Saturday because he refused to be examined by doctors of the detention center. Aleksanyan drinks water, but takes no food, the lawyer said. Aleksanyan was taken into custody on April 7, following a resolution of Basmanny district court that satisfied a request filed by the Prosecutor’s General office. Aleksanyan was charged with theft of the assets and property of the Tomskneft Company worth more than 12 billion roubles and money laundering. The Yukos vice- president was detained in a private apartment he visited as a guest in Zemlyanoi Val Street in Moscow on April 6. Aleksanyan refused to plead guilty of the offenses he was charged with.
