Rescuers on Thursday continue the search for two missing snowborders from St Petersburg
Rescuers on Thursday continue the search for two missing snowborders from St Petersburg, who were hit by an avalanche in the Khibiny Mountains on the Kola Peninsula on Monday night. The search has been going on for a third day. The mountain rescue personnel of the Kirovsk city centre of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies, and their colleagues who have come to their assistance from other cities of the Peninsula, together with volunteers from among local inhabitants have probed one-third of the avalanche at its base by means of special metallic prods, to no avail. Four specially trained service dogs, brought to the scene from St Petersburg by dog handlers, joined in the search efforts on Thursday morning, an officer on duty in the Kirovsk rescue party (KRP) has told Itar-Tass.
