The Pacific Fleet has launched an investigation into reports of a fire onboard a submarine at the Kamchatka submarine flotilla in Russia's Far East
The Pacific Fleet has launched an investigation into reports of a fire onboard a submarine at the Kamchatka submarine flotilla in Russia's Far East, the fleet's press office said Thursday. Earlier a source in the Pacific Fleet said a fire had broken out in a compartment of a submarine at dock in the town of Vilyuchinsk. Sailors put out the fire, and there were no victims, the source said. "The fleet command has no information on the fire so far," the press office said. "Possibly, there was some ignition during repairs on the submarine, but it was eliminated promptly without any serious damage, and therefore fleet command was not informed." However, the Russian northeastern command denied reports of the fire. "Pre-planned exercises with the use of smoke were held on the submarine," the command's press office said. Vilyuchinsk military prosecutor Igor Ruf said military prosecutors were looking into the reports, and that no one had been injured on the submarine.
