Russia’s strategic nuclear force will have no fewer than 2,000 warheads in 2011, in 2016 and in 2020, the chief designer of the Moscow Institute of Thermal Engineering, Yuri Solomonov, has told the media. Russia has this right under the Russian-US Strategic Offensive Reductions Treaty of 2002. After December 31, 2002 either side is allowed to have no more than 1700-2200 warheads.
