The Gospel of Judas was created by a sect in order to picture good and sin as equivalent
The Gospel of Judas was created by a sect in order to picture good and sin as equivalent, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Alexy II told reporters on Monday. The translation into English of the Copt manuscript of a so-called Gospel of Judas has been recently published in Washington. Judas is pictured in it as a favourite follower of Christ, who betrayed Him for allegedly helping accomplishing His earthly mission. Alexy II cited opinions of scientists, saying that this document is “related with the heresy of gnosticism that existed in II-III ages A.D.” “It was probably then that the Gospel of Judas appeared in order to show the equivalence of good and sin,” he said. The patriarch said that the “attempts to sow doubt in souls and hearts of people happened during the two thousand year history of Christianity”. In his opinion, this should not embarrass the Christians, “because we believe in the Divine Revelation, and we see these finds of later times as an expression and testimony of heretic teachings,” Alexy II said.
