Karl Bushby and Dimitri Kieffer, detained in Chukotka over illegal crossing of the Russian border, insist on retrial of their case at the district court
Karl Bushby of Britain and Dimitri Kieffer of the United States, detained in Chukotka over illegal crossing of the Russian border, insist on retrial of their case at the district court. They also insist on attending the hearing in Anadyr, the travelers' lawyer Alexander Perelygin told Itar-Tass on Tuesday. The appeal may be finalized as early as Wednesday, Perelygin said. Simultaneously, the travelers are drawing an official letter requesting Russian authorities to allow them to stay in Chukotka. "Karl Bushby has set his mind on becoming the first person who would go round the world on foot, he's been going toward this objective for seven years," Perelygin said. On April 14, the Chukotka district court passed a resolution under which the foreigners have to pay a 2,000-rouble fine and are liable to admistrative expulsion from the country.
