President Vladimir Putin presented state awards on Thursday to twenty-three parliament members. Honorary titles were bestowed on three others. The ceremony, which was held by tradition in the Yekaterininsky Hall of the Kremlin, was timed for the 100th anniversary of parliamentarism in Russia, which will be marked next week. The order “For Services to the Fatherland” (third class) was awarded to Chairman of the Duma Committee for the Affairs of Veterans Nikolai Kovalyov. Six parliament members were decorated with orders “For Services to the Fatherland” (fourth class). They include Duma Vice-Speakers Vyacheslav Volodin and Vladimir Zhirinovsky, who will be sixty on April 25, and also to Chairman of the Duma Committee for International Affairs Konstantin Kosachev, chairmen of the Duma Committees for Ecology, Defence and Agricultural Affairs -- Vladimir Grachev, Viktor Zavarzin, and Gennady Kulik respectively. Six more parliament members were decorated with the Order of Honour. One of them is MP Alexander Khinshtein. The president presented Friendship Orders to ten Duma members, including Duma Vice-Speaker Sergei Baburin. Deputy Chairman of the Committee for CIS Affairs and Contacts with Fellow-Countrymen Mukharbek Aushev and MP Nikolai Gonchar. The honorary title of “Merited Worker of the Oil and Gas Industry of the Russian Federation” was bestowed on Chairman of the Duma Committee on Energy, Transport and Communications Valery Yazev, the title of “Merited Worker of Physical Culture of the Russian Federation” on Chairman of the Duma Committee for Physical Culture, Sport and Youth Affairs Vladislav Tretyak, and the title of “Merited Jurist of the Russian Federation” – on Chairman of the Duma Committee on Security Vladimir Vasilyev.
