One man was killed, four civilians and 12 policemen were injured in the Dokuzpari district of Dagestan where police clashed with a group of protesters as a result of massive disorders on Tuesday. “One of demonstrators, 34-year-old Makhachkala resident Murad Lagmetov got a lethal bullet wound, another four civilians got bullet wounds. A crack policeman also got a leg bullet wound, another 11 crack policemen got various bodily injuries, as the protesters hurled stones at them and beat them up with sticks,” the press service of the Dagestani Interior Ministry told Itar-Tass on Wednesday. About 500 residents of the district gathered for a rally on Tuesday demanding to dismiss head of the district administration Kirimkhan Abasov, a district prosecutor and a police chief. The protesters blocked the Magaramkent-Rutul highway. The demonstrators refused to unblock the highway and meet with the republican leadership. The protesters began hurling stones at policemen at about 17.00 Moscow time, and policemen had to open warning fire in the air. The republican Interior Ministry did not report whether the demonstrators used arms. Seventy-four people were brought to the alert department of the Dokuzpari district police department on suspicions of the participation in the massive disorders. The district prosecutor’s office is investigating the incident. Instigators of the unauthorized rally and massive disorders who escaped from the incident site are being searched for. Criminal proceedings were instituted under several articles for an attempt on life of policemen, the use of violence against representatives of the authorities and hooliganism by a group of people. The investigation is underway.
