1,320,000 people took part in rallies marking Spring and Labor Day in Russia on May 1
A total of 1,320,000 people took part in rallies marking Spring and Labor Day in Russia on May 1, police said Tuesday. Demonstrations were held in 833 cities and towns across the country, with 90,000 police officers and more than 7,000 Interior Ministry troops maintaining order. In Moscow, where large rallies were always seen in the Soviet era to mark what was then a major holiday for working people, over 15,000 representatives of the city's trade unions and the regional office of the pro-Kremlin United Russia party took to the streets. Over 10,000 union representatives gathered for a similar event in the southern Russian city of Volgograd, and over 20,000 in the Urals city of Yekaterinburg
