The water level on the Ob River near Barnaul has approached a critical level of 520 centimeters, and the water level keeps rising. “The critical level may be exceeded by 60-80 centimeters in Barnaul suburbs, Ilyicha and Zaton,” the emergencies department in Altai territory told Itar-Tass on Tuesday. Over 10,000 people may get in the possible flood area. Barnaul Mayor Vladimir Kolganov held an extraordinary meeting of the anti-flood committee on Tuesday over the deteriorating flood situation. “Residents should be urgently evacuated from the flood area. The most important thing now is the rescue of people,” the mayor emphasized. All Barnaul life-supporting services are put on high alert. The places of gathering and the temporary accommodation of people were determined. As much as 378,000 roubles were assigned to buy pumps and 240,000 roubles for the anti-flood measures. The lists of residents who may get in the flood area were specified. Boats and private rowboats are on standby, the stock of foodstuffs and prime necessities was formed for 14 days. The mayor’s office did not rule out that the evacuation of residents from the flooded settlements “may begin already on Tuesday.”
