Over 900 tons of poisonous chemicals have accumulated in Tatarstan
The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources reported on Tuesday that the chemicals consist of agricultural fertilizers whose period of use has expired. They are not only unusable, but also represent a real threat to the Tatar environment. Out of the 900 tons of chemicals, over 700 tons are unidentified mixes. All of the chemical substances are from the first and second hazard levels. A special program was developed in order to resolve the problem, and this program managed to remove from Tatarstan and utilize 140 tons of the chemicals. Ecologists still don't know what to do with the rest. By the lowest estimates, utilization would cost around 60 million rubles. According to the Boris Petrov, Tatarstan's Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, resolution of the problem will require a federal program that can be carried out jointly by federal and republic authorities.
