The Russian Prosecutor-General’s Office was carrying out a series of document seizures and searches in the building of the Federal Customs Service on Friday. “The Russian Prosecutor-General’s Office has instituted a criminal case on the fact of abuse of office by officials of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade,” the Office’ spokesperson Natalia Vishnyakova told reporters. “This abuse consisted of illegal issuance of licenses for imports to Russia of meat products above limit quotas set by the Russian government, which gave importer companies a possibility to import meat products to Russia not on a general basis, but at lower rates of customs taxes,” she said.
