Some 20 climbers are missing on Mount Elbrus
Some 20 climbers are missing on Mount Elbrus. A 15-member group of the search and rescue service of Kabardinio-Balkaria’s regional emergencies ministry began the search for them on May 9, the ministry’s duty officer told ITAR-TASS on Wednesday. He said the climbers began scaling Elbrus as an event marking the Victory Day. Eight climbers from St. Petersburg, 10 from Moscow and four from Ukraine had registered before the trip. No joint group has reported to the search and rescue service. The separate groups are most likely to have lost their way because of a bad weather and lacking visibility, the service’s officer said. He said one of the climbers had reached the rescuer service and was ready to show a way to others.
