A recent visit to Tbilisi by Russian Security Council Secretary Igor Ivanov was planned in advance
"Igor Ivanov's visit was not unexpected for the Georgian authorities, and his meeting with the Georgian president had been planned in advance," said the ambassador. "The Georgian and Russian presidents met in Moscow in February. Time has passed and the two countries had to 'synchronize watches,' look into what have been achieved or is yet to be achieved and outline further steps," said Mr Chkhikvishvili. While in Tbilisi, Mr Ivanov discussed economic and political issues, the conflicts in Georgia and the Russian military bases' withdrawal, i.e. the whole set of bilateral issues, according to the ambassador. "I believe the discussion will resume during Georgian Premier Zurab Zhvania's visit to Moscow, due on May 24-25," said Mr Chkhikvishvili. Mr Ivanov paid a one-day visit to Tbilisi on Monday. He held meetings with the host country's president, prime minister and national security council secretary.
