Russia-NATO relations are an important element of global and regional security
Russia-NATO relations are an important element of global and regional security, Foreign Ministry spokesman Mikhail Kamynin said in an interview published by the Friday issue of the newspaper Rossiiskaya Gazeta. “We view the relations with NATO as an important element of global and regional security. Both alliance member countries and Russia are encountering increased attacks by terrorist groups and attempts of terrorists to get an access to weapons of mass destruction and their delivery means,” Kamynin said. “Obviously, we need a joint response to such challenges as regional crises, manmade and natural disasters, drug trafficking, illegal migration and human trafficking.” A giant step from confrontation to cooperation has been made in Russia-NATO relations over a rather short period of history, Kamynin said. Russia and NATO have switched from mutual accusations and stereotypes to the formation of modern institutes of cooperation, he said. “We have focused joint efforts on areas, which meet long-term security interests of Russia and NATO countries,” he said. A unique campaign entitled “Russia-NATO: Uniting Efforts” was launched in Vladivostok on May 11. NATO and Russian experts, politicians and diplomats will move east towards Kaliningrad for 15 days and explain why NATO and Russia hold consultations and what results the consultations may have. They will reach Novosibirsk on May 12, Yekaterinburg – on May 13, Samara – on May 15, Volgograd – on May 17, Moscow – on May 18, Murmansk – on May 22, Pskov – on May 24, and Kaliningrad – on May 26.
