Sergei Ivanov arrived at the Russian Northern Fleet on a two-day working visit on Monday
Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov arrived at the Russian Northern Fleet on a two-day working visit on Monday. The purpose of the visit is to assess the state of and prospects for the development of the fleet’s surface ships and submarines, which account for 80 percent of Russia’s naval strategic nuclear capabilities, the Defence Ministry said. “On May 16 at the Northern Fleet headquarters (Severomorsk) Sergei Ivanov will hear a report of the commander, Vice Admiral Vladimir Vysotsky on the maintenance of the combat and mobilisation readiness of the fleet, plans for its development, combat training, and the resolution of social problems of the sailors and their families,” the ministry said. It is planned that the minister will visit surface ships of the Northern Fleet, including the heavy nuclear missile cruiser Pyotr Veliky in Severomorsk, and multipurpose and attack nuclear submarines in Vidyayevo.
