Four soldiers have been killed and another four wounded when their column came under fire in central Chechnya, law-enforcement agencies said Wednesday. The incident happened in the Kurchaloyev district to the east of the capital, Grozny. Russian Defense Ministry said earlier that 31 soldiers had been killed in the troubled North Caucasus republic of Chechnya since the start of 2006. Only three of them were killed in action and one serviceman has been reported missing.
