Eight people have died in a fire that engulfed a hostel used by the Airborne Forces near Moscow
Eight people, including two children, have died in a fire that engulfed a hostel used by the Airborne Forces near Moscow in the early hours of Monday, the emergency services said. "A total of eight people including two children have died in a fire in the village of Medvezhy Ozera," the spokesman said, adding that the hostel's roof had collapsed in the fire. The one-floor family hostel in Medvezhy Ozera, which is about 60 kilometers (40 miles) northeast of Moscow, was home to 54 people including 38 military servicemen, he said. Military prosecutors have opened an investigation into the case, a local prosecutor said. An individual found guilty of neglecting fire-safety regulations in a blaze that caused at least two deaths could face up to seven years in prison, she said.
