Leaders of leading news agencies of the world – British Reuters, U.S. AP, French AFP, German DPA, Italian ANSA, Japanese Kyodo and Russian Itar-Tass, got together in Moscow on Thursday. It is for the first time that major news agencies organize such a meeting ahead of a G8 summit. They will exchange opinions on the role of news agencies in the present day world, their tasks and the coverage of pressing problems, which will be discussed at the G8 summit in St. Petersburg on July 15 to 17. Discussions in the Russian capital testify to a high level of cooperation between the leading news agencies, which have been operating on information markets for decades. The meeting was initiated by the Itar-Tass news agency.
