Petersburg does not conceal its ambitions to become Russia's innovations capital
Petersburg does not conceal its ambitions to become Russia's innovations capital, city governor Valentina Matviyenko said at the opening of the 10th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Tuesday. St.Petersburg has a large economic and scientific potential. "The city is actively restructuring its economy, staking on the development of high-tech branches of industry," Matviyenko said. She emphasized that the geographic location and the availability of a port and a ramified network of roads will contribute to further economic growth of the city. The governor reminded that Petersburg had posted a steady increase in the volume of foreign investment in the recent years. A significant portion of this money goes to processing industries. The city has launched the construction of ten enterprises recently, including with foreign stakes, and foreign car-makers are building their assembly lines in St.Petersburg, Matviyenko said.
