The Moscow City Court on Tuesday upheld the transportation of Mikhail Khodorkovsky to a penitentiary in the Chita region
The Moscow City Court on Tuesday upheld the transportation of former CEO of the Yukos oil company Mikhail Khodorkovsky to a penitentiary in the Chita region, to serve his sentence there. There court thereby turned down the appeal from Khodorkovsky's lawyers, in which they asked to overturn the decision by Moscow's Zamoskvoretsky court. Earlier, the Zamoskvoretsky court upheld the sending of Khodorkovsky to the penal colony in the village of Khari, Chita Region. His lawyers had asked to let him serve his sentence in Moscow or Moscow Region. Khodorkovsky was sentenced to eight years in prison in 2005 for tax evasion and fraud.
