Islamabad and Moscow must develop cooperation in the fight against terrorism
Islamabad and Moscow must develop cooperation in the fight against terrorism, Pakistan’s President Pervez Musharraf told. Pakistan and Russia “fight jointly against terrorism threatening peace,” he said. “In this it is necessary to strengthen interaction along the lines of security services of the two countries.” Pervez Musharraf deems it important to grasp the causes of such phenomena, as terrorism and extremism. “The military approach cannot become the absolute solution to the phenomenon of terrorism,” he holds. “No one must be misled into thinking that all problems can be solved by force.” “Regrettably,” the Pakistani leader said, “our counteraction to terrorism now boils down to fighting its consequences.” However, the root-cause of the problem lies “in political differences that into which Moslems are drawn – in Kashmir, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan. We must settle these political disputes.” Musharraf said his theory of “enlightened moderation” in Islam touches upon precisely these problems. The Islamic world “must take the road of social and economic development,” he believes. “The West, above all the United States, must promote the development of social and economic processes in Islamic countries. This will be tangible progress,” he said.
