The Moscow city authorities plan to open Russian-language schools for migrants in each administrative district
The Moscow city authorities plan to open Russian-language schools for migrants in each administrative district. This decision was taken at a meeting of the Moscow City Duma’s commission on science and education. Crash courses for migrant adults and children will last one year. Children will attend daytime courses and adults will go to school in the evening. “The Russian language schools are seen as centers for migrants’ social adaptation. The trainees will not only study the language, but also find help and advice in getting used to a new lifestyle,” the deputy head of the Moscow education department, Yuri Goryachev said. There are around 25,000 migrant children in Moscow. The legislators pointed out that a special curriculum should be developed for their training. The first such school will be opened in Moscow in January 2007.
