Seventy-seven servicemen died in Russia's armed forces in May, including five in Chechnya, according to a report placed on the Defense Ministry's website on Friday. The bulk of fatalities occurred due to accidents /28/ or crimes /7/. Seventeen troops committed suicide. Violation of traffic rules or operation of vehicles claimed the lives of 20 people. Seven soldiers were killed in crimes committed by civilians. One serviceman died in an accident caused by negligence. Two servicemen died in hazing incidents. Losses in action in Chechnya in May totalled four. The fifth servicemen died in Chechnya in a non-hostile accident. According to the Defense Ministry, 1,065 troops died in 2005, and 354 have died since the beginning of this year.
