Russian President Vladimir Putin has asked the Federation Council to appoint Yuri Chaika as the new prosecutor-general
Russian President Vladimir Putin has asked the Federation Council (upper house) to appoint Yuri Chaika as the new prosecutor-general, FC Speaker Sergei Mironov said. “Chaika’s approval will encounter no problems in the upper house. He is a very good candidate. I know him very well. The upper house will consider Chaika’s nomination on Friday. On Monday he will face the FC committee for legal and judicial affairs, and on Tuesday, by the defense and security committee,” Mironov told the media. In case of endorsement Chaika, currently Russia’s Justice Minister, will succeed Vladimir Ustinov, who stepped down on June 2. The nomination of Yuri Chaika for the position of Russia’s new prosecutor-general will draw no objections from the upper house, Mironov told.
