The Moscow City Court on Tuesday began trial of Chechen resident Aslanbek Khaskhanov - the main defendant in the case of the terrorist attack near the MacDonalds restaurant in Moscow on October 19, 2002. After the prosecutor read the indictment, the defendant said he pleads partially guilty. "I have committed the crime, but I don't agree with the indictment," Khaskhanov said. Also on Tuesday, the court turned down his two appeals. Khaskhanov asked the court to release him from custody for health reasons and order a repeat medical and forensic examination. The court adjourned until Wednesday. Victims are expected to testify at the next hearing. One person died and another eight were injured in a car bomb explosion near the MacDonalds restaurant in Pokryshkin Street on October 19, 2002. The damage to the building of the restaurant was estimated at 3.32 million roubles. Seven cars parked nearby were also damaged.
