Officials from Rosenergoatom and French electricity giant EDF discussed nuclear cooperation during a visit to a major Russian power plant Friday
Officials from Rosenergoatom and French electricity giant EDF discussed nuclear cooperation during a visit to a major Russian power plant Friday, Russia's nuclear power generating monopoly said in a news release. The EDF delegation visited the Beloyarsk nuclear power plant, in the Urals region, to study its fast-breeder reactor, the larger of the world's two such reactors currently in operation. The other is based in the ex-Soviet republic of Kazakhstan. With 76% of its electricity generated by nuclear plants, France shows a keen interest in breeder technology, which is believed to make more efficient use of nuclear fuel than conventional light-water reactors. It has so far developed only a test version of a fast-breeder reactor.
