Two Russian peacekeepers have been wounded as a result of an explosion in a fixed route taxi van in Tiraspol. Captain Alexander Zakusilo and Sergeant Igor Polezhayev were in a trolley bus near which the taxi exploded. Unconfirmed reports said a nurse from a Russian military hospital, who was in the taxi van, was killed in the explosion, said Deputy chief of the Interior Ministry of the Dniester region Oleg Belyakov. The exact number of casualties was unknown because only fragments of human bodies remained on the site of the explosion. The taxi exploded on Thursday morning. The taxi van stopped at a crossroads near a trolley bus while the red light was on. Suddenly, a powerful blast went off inside the taxi. The blast scattered fragments of the taxi van within a range of a hundred meters. All the passengers who were in the taxi van were killed, around twenty people, who were in the trolley bus near the taxi, were wounded in the incident. According to a preliminary investigation, an explosive device activated either intentionally or accidentally, might have caused the blast, Belyakov said. Experts have been working on the site of the blast, and another group of investigators are expected to arrive from Odessa. According to the latest reports, eight people were killed and around twenty wounded in the incident.
