Russia's full-fledged participation in the Central Asian Co-operation Organisation (CAC) is natural
Russian Security Council Secretary Igor Ivanov said at a press conference on Friday in Astana, Kazakhstan, summing up an extraordinary session of the CAC heads of state. He thanked CAC heads of state for their unanimous decision to accept Russia to the organisation, stressing that Russia intended "to fully participate in the CAC activity in all the spheres meeting its interests." "Integration processes are dictated by the times of globalisation," said Igor Ivanov. "Today all the countries are seeking the most acceptable forms of co-operation meeting their interests to solve topical tasks in various spheres," said the Russian representative. In this connection, Igor Ivanov added, "Russia's co-operation with the CAC states, from our point of view, meets the interests of each separate country and all of them on the whole." At present, the CAC includes four of the five former Soviet Central Asian republics - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan. Turkmenistan announced its neutrality status from the day when it became independent, and included a relevant provision in the Constitution.
